Celebrating Devon’s World-Class HeritageDevon’s world-class heritage will come under the spotlight at a day of public talks that the Devonshire Association is hosting in Tiverton on Saturday 10th May. Devon stands out among England’s historic counties as being home to no less than six heritage assets that have been recognised by UNESCO as having global significance. These are: Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site Dorset and East Devon Coast World Heritage Site English Riviera Global Geopark North Devon Biosphere Reserve Exeter City of Literature Exeter Cathedral’s Exeter Book of Anglo-Saxon Poetry At its Symposium on Saturday 10 May The Devonshire Association is bringing together expert speakers on all these topics for a lively day of talks and discussion. They will be highlighting the social, environmental and economic benefits these heritage areas bring to Devon. The day, which is supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and UNESCO UK, promises to be both revelatory and inspiring. Simon Timms, the Devonshire Association’s President for 2024/25 said: “The Devonshire Association has been championing Devon’s heritage for over 160 years. Thanks to National Lottery players we are able to offer everyone this rare opportunity to hear up-to-date presentations about all six of our county’s finest heritage assets”.
