News from the GeoparkGeoPark Adventure team attracting cyclists for its first ever Torbay Sportive10 Oct 2014SOME 50 cyclists have signed up for the first GeoPark Adventure Torbay Sportive this month. It is hoped around 100 will start the ride from the Bay’s new Velopark at Clennon Valley at 8am on the Sunday October 19. Competitors will have the option of the 40 or 80 km course around South Devon’s rolling hills. It’s a beautiful but challenging course taking in the villages of Marldon, Ipplepen, Berry Pomeroy, Stoke Gabriel, Galmpton and back to Goodrington. It promises lots of hills and views along the way. The 40km course is packing a total ascent of almost 3,000 ft, while the 80km course is close to 6,000 ft. The 80km cyclists will complete a second lap of the most punishing part of the course with a few extra treats along the way. St Marychurch based Bay Cycles are supporting the non competitive event, as is Torbay Council which is providing the Velopark. Volunteers are all locals but more than half the signed up riders are from outside Torbay or even Devon. The event is supporting Rowcroft and the Orlando Rogers Foundation who both have a number of free places to have riders raise money for the charities. If anyone is interested in taking a charity place, please contact Brendon Prince of GeoPark Adventure 07974 243965 or the charity. GeoPark Adventure has been competing/organising triathlons, adventure races, traditional swims and runs on the English Riviera. |
