Art Exhibition Celebrating Torbay's Creative Heritage Tours to HeArTs Gallery at Torbay Hospital

27 Aug 2019

Following the successful opening exhibition of 'Our Place in the Seven Heavens' by one of our Associate Partners, Artizan Gallery the show has toured to the recently opened HeArTs Gallery at Torbay Hospital.

The exhibition which celebrates the creative heritage of the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark, offered South Devon artists and writers a the chance to explore the significant cultural heritage associated with the three towns, from the Pre Raphaelite works housed in local museums to the celebrated authors, painters and artisans who still call it home today.

Participating artists, including local textile artist Rose Elliott and emerging young artist William Mills, who exhibit alongside talented performance poets Shelly Szender and Jason Disley were encouraged to take a closer look at their home on the English Riviera, observing its heritage and history as a creative destination whilst also considering our wider significance (or perhaps insignificance) in the Seven Heavens. The resulting exhibtion brought together 22 artists and poets with a collective response that painted an uplifting image of Torbay and its people.

Jacob Brandon from Artizan Gallery said "We're delighted that the exhibition has the chance to tour to the HeArTs Gallery. The celebratory nature of the exhibition makes it the perfect fit for the new space at Torbay Hospital. We hope it will be the first of many that we collaborate on.

The HeArTs programme is the beginning of a collaborative vision to bring a curated programme of art and events that develop opportunities for both users and providers of healthcare to engage more fully with the diversity of arts to benefit health and wellbeing.

The exhibition is on display until 6 September 2019.
