Pilgrim Heritage Sailing Foundation operates a Heritage Brixham Sailing Trawler. The technique of trawling was invented in Brixham and Pilgrim is the oldest surviving Brixham Trawler still in operation. We run sailing trips from April to October for people to experience life onboard a wooden sailing trawler. Alongside this we have a new 5 year strategy to develop an education programme around the heritage of the trawling industry ) and traditional sailing skills, an environmental programme engaging with partners in plankton monitoring, and a programme of events around wellbeing and connecting with the natural world. By sharing the story of our part in the heritage of the fishing industry we can also help people to explore the environmental impact of the fishing industry today and support conversation about the conflicts between more sustainable practice and the economy of Torbay. |
